Virtual reality (VR) has shown improved learning outcomes when compared to traditional teaching and training methods in a variety of fields. While virtual reality is a promising tool for law enforcement training, there has been little empirical research assessing its efficacy for law enforcement training. This presentation will report on an on-going study of the impact of VR for police de-escalation training. We will focus on the planning and design phases of the experiment and the lessons learned from trying to implement VR training for de-escalation in a large law enforcement agency.
