Legal socialization is central to understanding compliance with the law. Little research has explored how parents socialize their children on regarding the legitimacy of law enforcement. Using a sample of first- and second-generation Hispanic immigrants, as well as native-born Hispanics, the current study explores 1) differences in the frequency of discussions of police between parents and children, and 2) correlates of engaging in these discussions. In addressing these questions, this study provides insights into the socialization mechanisms associated with police legitimacy.
