Using national data on fatal and non-fatal violence from 1993 to 2020, we, first, estimate how the lethality of violent crimes has changed over the past three decades. Second, we examine if the magnitude of the association between firearm presence and incident lethality has increased. Results advance understanding of how the lethality of violent crime incidents has changed over a 30-year period in America.
