Student binge drinking has been a long-standing issue for many colleges and universities,
spanning over decades. Research has demonstrated the traditional college age student has heightened binge drinking and drug issues when compared to similar aged non-college peers. Additionally, binge drinking is not simply confined to those who are underage on campuses. Legal age college students have similar binge drinking patterns as their underage counterparts. There have been numerous studies to try and grasp the social patterns that cause this behavior. Also, there have been numerous programs and policies at colleges and universities that have failed in curbing the issue. The current study collectively looks at theoretical and social causes of college student binge drinking. Program and policy implications will be discussed.
