The purpose of this study is to explore student perceptions about the reentry process that previously incarcerated individuals may experience. This will be done through participation in a high-impact practice of a reentry simulation developed and administered by employees of the state Probation and Parole Department. Through simulation participation, students will experience similar barriers and obstacles to the reentry process that previously incarcerated individuals may face during their actual reentry back into society. The objective is to see if the students who may be working in the field post-graduation are aware of the realistic obstacles that occur during the reentry process. Their perceptions were surveyed in a pre and posttest assessment. The researchers hypothesize that students are not fully aware of all the barriers that individuals face and that this simulation will help expose them to realities of probation and parole and how they might impact this field when they graduate.
