Integrating Research and Best Practices into Public Guidance and Policymaking on Targeted Violence and Terrorism Prevention

Fri, Nov 15, 9:30 to 10:50am, Salon 7 - Lower B2 Level - Area 4

Abstract

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Center for Prevention Programs and Partnerships (CP3) uses a public health-informed approach to targeted violence and terrorism prevention. Its efforts focus on creating evidence-based prevention resources and helping prevention providers build protective factors at the individual, family, and community levels to decrease the risk of targeted violence, hate crime, and terrorism. This presentation highlights the work that CP3 has done to curate an evidence base and further identify best practices in the targeted violence and terrorism prevention space. The presentation will feature examples of how research and best practices have been incorporated into public presentations, written materials, grant guidance, and evidence-based policymaking guidance.
