Abstract

We design and deploy a series of interactive 'choose your own adventure' type assignments modeled off of text-based computer games, using them to teach criminology and criminal justice theory and concepts. Built in Qualtrics, a common survey suite held at universities across the country, we demonstrate how non-coders can design and develop these interactive activities that are robust to the influence of AI and other external aids. We share the building process for creating the games, learning outcomes derived from the games, and the results of deploying them in other contexts (like substantive research and K12 education).
