Among a majority of studies, it is agreed that an unfortunately large number (one in five) of female students report being raped during their time at college. The present research aimed to identify sexual violence on college campuses, investigate how it impacts the academic success of female students, educate persons in leadership positions, and invent solutions based on fact. Through secondary research of several studies and other literature reviews, results suggest that a healthy percentage of student sexual assault survivors experience several negative effects. Some of these effects are post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), a plummet in self-esteem, and the development of unhealthy and ineffective coping skills. Each of these effects ultimately influences a student victim’s academic life; they directly impact GPA, attendance, and dropout rates. These results can be crucial to stopping the stigma, reducing rape culture on college campuses, and further encouraging assistance to student victims in succeeding academically after being attacked.
