Talk Nerdy To Me: How Public Policy Organizations Use Data to Inform Legislation

Abstract

This lightning talk will discuss the role of think tanks in using research to educate, advocate, and engage policy makers in discussions on smart public safety policies that meet the needs and concerns of people on both sides of the political aisle. Think tanks are an alternative option for researchers who are not interested in pursuing a career in academia. This presentation will highlight the collaborative processes, including coalition building, virtual and in-person convenings, and various forms of research and education that are used to find common ground in a divisive political climate.
