This poster displays the implications of significant social changes on criminology and the criminal justice system, including multiculturalism and the rise of mixed-race populations. Our research project, "Colorism and Eduardo Bonilla Silvia's Tri-racial Hierarchy: An Empirical Study," investigates how individuals' experiences with the criminal justice system are influenced by their position in Bonilla-Silva's Tri-racial hierarchy, with a focus on disparate treatment based on skin color within racial groups. We align our study with this year's conference theme to highlight the relevance of our findings in addressing racial and skin color inequality and systemic bias. By uncovering patterns of differential treatment, particularly in arrest, prosecution, and sentencing, our research aims to inform policies and practices that promote equity and fairness in the criminal justice system.
