Engaging Students in Active Learning in Corrections Education

Fri, Nov 15, 9:30 to 10:50am, Foothill H - 2nd Level

Abstract

This talk delves into the potential of active learning approaches within correctional settings. Traditional methods may fall short of engaging students in understanding the routines of correctional settings and the roles of correctional professionals. Through real-world observations and experiences, students may utilize the benefits of active learning. Specifically, assignments focused on tours of correctional facilities and assignments that can be used to assess learning goals. These type of learning opportunities my guide learners in application of concepts covered in the classroom. Attendees will gain insights into practical strategies for implementing active learning techniques in corrections settings, overcoming challenges, and presenting positive outcomes for students enrolled in corrections classes.
