Supportive Reentry: Simplifying Academic & Practitioner Relationships

Fri, Nov 15, 9:30 to 10:50am, Foothill H - 2nd Level

Abstract

A gap currently exists between academics who carry out evidence-based research and the practitioners implementing those same policies and practices. Therefore, the need is growing for academics and practitioners who can simplify or "translate" that research into less formal academic jargon. This idea has been formally extended to what some call "Pracademics". For our purposes, Pracademics are those individuals who can help to identify the gaps in knowledge and create collaborative partnerships to work through the evidence together and find ways to apply it. This lightening talk will focus on the efforts taking place throughout the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to break down silos, collaborate and communicate across systems, and to better provide our justice-involved population with the evidence-based resources they need to be successful in their reentry.
