Keeping Secrets: Environmental Crime in a Small Town

Fri, Nov 15, 2:00 to 3:20pm, Pacific D - 4th Level

Abstract

One of the hallmarks of white collar crimes is controlling information about risk. Many involve depriving stakeholders of information needed to make informed choices about risks they face. This is the case in the asbestos-related disaster of a small town in Montana where a multi-national corporation, an insurance company, and the state
engaged in state-corporate crime by withholding evidence of an environmental disaster for decades.
