Fraud has always existed but is continually evolving with the development of technology. The ways in which offenders target potential victims, the vulnerabilities exploited, and the methods of payment requested are constantly undergoing change. This poses challenges for prevention messaging from organisations seeking to educate citizens on the signs to look out for to avoid victimisation. The ways that the internet and other communication platforms operate influence the ways in which offenders operate.
This presentation examines fraud, in terms of looking back and looking forwards. It will canvass some of the technological changes which have transformed the fraud landscape and particularly engages with how the rapid advancement of AI impacts on both offending and victimisation.
