The New Orleans Department of Health formed a Domestic Violence Fatality Review Team in 2020, filling a critical void in the city’s approach to reduce historically high rates of domestic homicide. With guidance from Neil Websdale and his national team, the New Orleans team spent a year drafting protocols and legislation, and assembling a team of key interdisciplinary experts from the community. Four years in, the team has completed several reviews and corresponding reports. Efforts to perfect the protocols and to retain/recruit members have been successful, and the team continues to contribute important data-driven implications for practice and research in the city. This poster describes the assembly and evolution of the team, findings from the first reports, and describes ongoing efforts to strengthen the methodology and impact of the team’s work, including training models and challenges.
