Our study aims to develop a typology of violent partners based on their personality characteristics, grouped under Axis-II of the DSM-V, and then verify whether our classification aligns or differs from existing typologies. Compare the profiles of violent partners on different psychometric tools, measuring psychopathy, impulsivity, criminal thinking styles, and finally the type of violence they commit within the intimate relationship. Conduct path analysis to examine whether violent partners follow specific trajectories of violence.
We analyzed data from 121 incarcerated partners in Quebec, including 100 perpetrators of physical and psychological violence and 21 perpetrators of sexual violence. Data collection involved semi-structured interviews, psychometric assessments, and official records. Cluster analysis will categorize partners based on personality traits, with subsequent comparisons using ANOVA in SPSS. Moreover, path analysis in MPLUS will explore distinct violence trajectories and influencing factors.
Our goal is to identify unique trends associated with different profiles of violent partners, enhancing our comprehension of the variability of violent behaviors within intimate relationships. This research aims to pinpoint potential avenues for tailored interventions aimed at preventing and addressing such violence.
