Prison Fellowship® Mastering Anger Randomized Controlled Trial Among Women in Prison - CANCELLED

Thu, Nov 14, 7:30 to 8:30pm, Golden Gate A+B - B2 Level

Abstract

Effective anger management and self-regulation programming options are essential for women in prison and more evidence-based options are needed. Prison Fellowship® Mastering Anger is a 10-week evidence-informed, field-tested curriculum adapted with anger expert Dr. Robert Nay by Prison Fellowship. The current project is a randomized controlled trial with a waitlist comparison condition and pre-post test assessment battery including the Texas Christian University Criminal Thinking Scales (Institute of Behavioral Research, 2022), Angry Cognitions Scale-Prison Form (Wydo & Martin, 2015), and State-Trait Anger Expression Inventory 2 (STAXI-2; Spielberger, 1999). Fidelity was measured using session-specific fidelity checklists. Participants included 83 women incarcerated in a Midwest medium security prison. All participants completed consenting and pre-assessment procedures prior to randomization into condition. Waitlist participants were invited to complete the curriculum following the post-assessment battery completion. Early preliminary results indicate the curriculum was conducted with fidelity and there were improvements in anger symptoms. Analyses are ongoing.
