Abstract

The poem “زيتون” was written to illustrate the genocide happening in Palestine. This piece demonstrates the brown, and Muslim perspective; Then, with trying to put into perspective of the palestinian bloodshed. There are many elite powers, and people against the Intifada—the Arabic word for “uprising” or “rebellion”—but the the movement has the upper hand at last. The western narrative is being broken down. This poem is supposed to represent the destruction, and devastation happening in Gaza. There are many evident images, documentations, statistics, and just plain history that have inspired my poem, and helped guild my voice on to paper. The main insights of my poem are minuscule highlights of the tortures Palestinians face on a daily basis. Without fail, we see the relations between the IOF, the American police forces, our country’s own genocides that have been concealed over time, and how each citizen in the world is treated depending on their beliefs, and values. My findings are just the same as every person screaming for palestine; There must be an immediate ceasefire, and stop to the Nakba—the Israeli occupation—while we still can. We the people will return; In our thousands, and in our millions.
