This poster project summarizes a research study comparing two criminal justice research methods courses, one in which critical reflection was utilized the other using a traditional course format. Research methods is a course that criminal justice students traditionally struggle in. Using aspects of high-impact practices such as course-embedded research projects and a strong reflective component may buffer some of this difficulty. Students in two online criminal justice research methods courses were invited to participate in the study. While the sample size was small, some elements of critical reflection enhanced student learning. Results comparing achievement of learning outcomes and student experiences between the two courses are discussed.
