Individuals under correctional supervision can face violations with a variety of responses to these violations while they are on probation or parole. This study investigates agent responses to violations of 362 men and women adults during their supervision. This is a unique setting because agents were trained to emphasize treatment rather than punishment for behaviors connected to mental health and substance abuse problems. In this setting, we examine differences in agent responses related to the type of violation and the gender and minority status of the people they supervise.
