Arson is a highly destructive and complex property crime, and yet there is a severe lack of policing research on arson investigators. The main goal of this study was to study arson investigators' attitudes and perceptions of their work. By conducting semi-structured interviews with arson investigators in Atlanta Fire Rescue (n=9), I found that arson investigators report high job satisfaction but are often frustrated with organizational and bureaucratic factors. The key takeaway is that arson investigators deserve more funding and recognition, as well as more research attention from policing scholars.
