Utilizing Science and Technology for Effective Re-offending Prediction and Institutional Limitations

Sat, Nov 16, 8:00 to 9:20am, Sierra E - 5th Level

Abstract

Wearable devices equipped with electronic monitoring systems generate vast amounts of data. In Korea, the crime prevention system not only conducts surveillance through electronic monitoring devices but also provides communication monitoring, face-to-face supervision, psychological therapy, and support services. This comprehensive approach closely monitors the situation of wearers and collects extensive information. The data collected may include signs of tampering with the electronic device or indications of recidivism. This study analyzes relevant data affecting recidivism among wearers of electronic monitoring devices and constructs scenarios leading to recidivism, providing training data for artificial intelligence to identify individuals with a high likelihood of reoffending. Additionally, it identifies unique behavioral patterns exhibited prior to reoffending for artificial intelligence to learn from.
