This presentation describes a participant observation research project of women in urban Virginia communities who lost children in gun violence incidents. Ethnographic Methodology, and IRB issues are discussed. Balancing empathy and clear representation of the researcher role; and the necessity to have trauma-informed facilitators and health personnel on board for live "sharing and healing circles" are discussed.
