Underrepresented students’ feelings of belonging on college campuses can be affected by various factors. This study focuses on criminology and criminal justice students at a predominantly Hispanic-serving institution, exploring how both subtle and overt forms of discrimination related to race, gender identity, and sexual orientation influence their sense of community. We employ validated scales to assess experiences of microaggressions along with students' perceived integration into the university. Through qualitative questions, students provide more detailed accounts of their experiences. We expect that people of color, women, and sexual and gender minorities will report experiencing more discrimination than their peers resulting in greater feelings of not belonging.
