Thu, Nov 14, 6:15 to 7:15pm, Golden Gate A+B - B2 Level

Abstract

In Japan, where the population is densely populated and public transportation is well developed, bicycles are a frequently used mode of transportation, especially in urban areas. Therefore, bicycle theft is the most prevalent type of theft in Japan, and it requires preventive measures from the viewpoint of environmental criminology. We geocoded data on bicycle theft reported to a police headquarters in one prefecture in the Tokyo metropolitan area and conducted a risk analysis using bicycle parking lot as the unit of analysis.
