This panel presents four papers from a BJA fellowship project that included interviews from both staff and residents at thirteen prisons and jails in the U.S. The papers consider language use in custody (labeling), collective punishment, inequality, and administrative neglect. Each paper presents first-hand narrative data and concludes with important recommendations and implications for the field.
