Session Submission Type: Complete Thematic Panel
This panel will examine the global processes building on the International Classification of Crime for Statistical Purposes (ICCS). It will discuss developments at the multilateral level on the development of high-quality statistical data, which are aimed at providing advice to criminal justice agencies on the collection, production, and dissemination of high-quality statistical data, and which can assist them in performing and monitoring their core functions, thereby improving the measurement of access to justice and promoting the implementation of ICCS. Panelists will discuss: newly developed UNODC Global Guidelines for the Production of Statistical Data by Police, Prosecutors and Courts, and Corrections agencies; domestic U.S. approaches to criminal justice administrative data and statistics and how they align with global best practices; the context of U.S. support to international criminal justice reform; and the critical role criminal justice administrative data plays in ensuring evidence-based approaches.
