Session Submission Type: Complete Thematic Panel
For over 25 years, the Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) has been the authoritative source for national statistics regarding the personnel, operations, policies, and procedures of law enforcement agencies (LEAs). These data are primarily collected through BJS’ core law enforcement data collection programs: the Census of State and Local Law Enforcement Agencies (CSLLEA) and the Law Enforcement Management and Administrative Statistics (LEMAS) surveys. In addition to these collections, BJS maintains several national data collections covering special topics in law enforcement, including studies on law enforcement training academies, firearm applications, campus law enforcement and the characteristics of persons who had some type of contact with police. This panel discussion will feature an overview of BJS’s law enforcement data collections and present on four of the most recent studies on Law Enforcement published at BJS.
