Abstract/Description

The advent of digitalization has revolutionized human interaction, with cyberspace emerging as a multifaceted arena hosting a myriad of social interactions. However, this transformation has not been without its perils. Hence, this panel focuses on the risks inherent in the digital realm, particularly within cyberspace, encompassing a broad spectrum of online activities beyond gaming. From cyberbullying and identity theft to misinformation and online radicalization, the digital landscape harbors various forms of harm that demand scholarly attention and innovative interventions. Among these, the harms associated with online gaming stand out as significant areas of concern. Therefore, this panel offers a holistic perspective on the challenges posed by digitalization in cyberspace, fostering contributions delving on the occurrence of certain criminal actions, the appearance of new problematic behaviors, or the responses given to the abovementioned by authorities, communities, platforms and/or organizations. Thus, the importance of interdisciplinary research is emphasized, and the need to promote collaborative efforts in order to safeguard online communities and promote digital well-being is highlighted.
