Research on the gentrification-crime relationship has developed rapidly over the past few years, but many questions remain under studied or recent developments have led to new questions. The papers in this panel expand understandings about the relationship of gentrification with crime by examining whether changes in crime precede gentrification, the importance of changes in neighborhood housing for the gentrification-crime relationship, whether gentrification creates hot spots of crime and how the gentrification-crime relationship has been shaped by the legalization of marijuana.
