Session Submission Type: Complete Thematic Panel
The papers presented in this panel offer diverse perspectives and methodological approaches in examining the intersections of community characteristics, race, ethnicity, and crime. The papers examine various ways through which race, ethnicity, and diversity intersect with community dynamics such as social cohesion and control, impacting not only crime rates within communities but also shaping law enforcement decisions and perceptions of areas as known drug locations. The panel includes both quantitative and qualitative research methodologies, providing a comprehensive approach to understanding the multifaceted ways in which race, ethnicity, and community factors interact in the study of crime and the criminal legal system.
