Arnold Ventures Approach to Identifying and Developing Research Investments to Advance Justice Reform and Policy Change

Abstract/Description

Arnold Ventures is a philanthropy dedicated to improving the lives of all Americans through evidence-based policy solutions that maximize opportunity and minimize injustice. Arnold Ventures focuses on broken systems where outcomes are falling short, incentives are misaligned, and the time is right for change. Arnold supports research to better understand the root causes of problems and to build evidence about what works to inform policy solutions. Informed by the evidence, Arnold advocates for policy reforms at all levels of government and builds durable, bipartisan coalitions to drive lasting change and impact. The Criminal Justice Initiative within Arnold is focused on advancing community safety and the values of fairness, effectiveness, and racial justice across several issue areas from police accountability to bail reform to prisons reform. The Arnold Ventures research team will: (1) discuss the Criminal Justice Initiative’s approach to identifying and developing research investments; (2) lift up key research findings from the Initiative which have had policy impact.
