Session Submission Type: Professional Development Panel
A far-too-often overlooked, under-valued, and frequently thankless, yet VITAL, part of the publication process is the peer-review stage. We all work tirelessly to conduct rigorous and important scholarship. Furthermore, having sound and insightful feedback from colleagues and experts only improves the knowledge we produce. Yet, most of us are never actually taught how to conduct meaningful and helpful reviews. Instead, we get angry at “Reviewer 2” when we’re given unclear or contradictory feedback, and we often decline invitations to review. While we are all busy and stretched thin, being a good reviewer aids in the production of impactful scholarship overall as well as makes us all better researchers. The Editorial Team of Race and Justice will provide guidelines, tips, and tricks to being a stronger reviewer. This interactive panel will demystify the review process and provide knowledge to improve anyone’s reviewing skills. We strongly encourage all to attend, but especially graduate students and those early on in their career. Those in attendance will also be invited to join the RAJ preferred reviewer list.
