Wed, Nov 13, 2:00 to 3:20pm, Salon 10 - Lower B2 Level

Session Submission Type: Complete Thematic Panel

Abstract/Description

The Build and Broaden Team includes Morgan State University (Baltimore, MD), West Virginia University (Morgantown, WV), and CUNY College of Staten Island (Staten Island, New York) faculty researchers, graduate research fellows, and undergraduate student researchers who have engaged in more than two years of community and police relations work in Baltimore city. The team will discuss the halfway mark of the participatory action research focused on reimagining policing in Baltimore city by building safer and stronger neighborhoods. The four papers in this panel include an NSF-funded effort that builds on a 2019 Police and Community Engagement (PACE) model in Baltimore within a situational policing framework. It concludes with a discussion on next steps and reaching the halfway mark but having far to go.
