Roundtable: Elevating Incarcerated Voices in the Academy

Abstract/Description

The purpose of this roundtable is to bring together scholars who are interested in, invested in, or experienced with, elevating the voices of incarcerated individuals within the academy. In this session, a group of formerly or currently incarcerated scholars, free scholars who have collaborated with incarcerated scholars, convict criminologists, and journal editors come together to discuss the challenges of penetrating the academy from behind bars. Our goal is to identify strategies for reaching inside scholars in need of academic mentoring and strengthening inside/outside partnerships, making the path to academic publication more accessible for incarcerated scholars.
