Research on various facets of human trafficking has grown tremendously over the last 25 years, particularly since the enactment of the Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000 in the United States and the Palermo Protocol at the international level. The National Institute of Justice (NIJ), part of the Office of Justice Programs in the U.S. Department of Justice, is taking stock of what we have learned so far to identify the most pressing research questions and soliciting input from the field as part of creating a strategic research agenda.
