Session Submission Type: Roundtable Session
Due to the significant interest and engagement generated by our initial roundtable discussion at ASC 2023, we are reconvening this forum to elevate, unpack, and address the nuanced experiences of Black and Brown scholars within justice-centered academic programs. By amplifying the collective academic journey of Black and Brown graduate students and faculty in criminology, this discussion seeks to emphasize these scholars’ experiences of perceived ‘invisibility’ and ‘hypervisibility’ in academia. Central to our roundtable is creating a shared space dedicated to amplifying their voices, offering narratives to build a reimagined academy responsive to diverse gender identities and cultural, racial, and ethnic intersectionalities. Further, our dialogue will explore and share strategies to support and uplift one another throughout the academic journey, laying the groundwork for future generations of Black and Brown scholars in criminology and criminal justice.
