Session Submission Type: Roundtable Session
With the booming development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its vast application, it is expected that AI will be further involved in day-to-day life and intertwined with society. Naturally, ethical guidelines on governing the use of AI are of key importance for stakeholders. While numerous agencies have created ethical guidelines on AI use, the policies may have contradicting messages and different terminology definitions as the agency agendas may differ. In addition, conceptual ambiguities may exist for ethical concepts, leading to debates and challenges for creating ethical guidelines. This roundtable will introduce both the commonalities and discords found in AI ethic policies, challenges with creating a global AI ethic policy, discuss the roles of stakeholders, and practical concerns with governing AI use. Specific focus will be put on the use of AI technology in criminal justice, including policing, court processes, the formation of policies and guidelines, disparities, and dangers of overconfidence in the information generated.
