Abstract/Description

The presentations in this lighting panel focus on various aspects of criminological research through classroom education and academia in general along with its relationship to practice in criminal justice-related agencies. First will be a discussion of emerging field of Survivor Criminology in academia. Next, classroom-based research on group-based versus individual projects will be presented. The third presentation will incorporate active learning practices within correctional settings. The fourth presentation will deliver methods for incorporating public criminology into the classroom. The fifth presentation will be regarding academic evidence-based research and its application by practitioners in the field. The sixth presentation will provide information on how a county agency implements innovative policies and programs to support survivors of crime. The panel will end with the hidden secrets of the community corrections profession. Through these presentations, this panel will offer its audience some methods regarding how to conduct criminological research in the classroom and its impact on people, policy, and practice.
