Session Submission Type: Roundtable Session
In this session, panelists will draw from their diverse backgrounds and research experiences with multiple justice-involved partners (i.e., sex workers, violence interrupters, gang/street culture or formerly incarcerated people) and community partners (i.e., non-governmental organizations, law enforcement or justice-oriented think tanks) across the United States (i.e., Delaware, New York, Missouri, Tennessee) and overseas (i.e., United Kingdom and India) to discuss the process of community-engaged research, from start to finish. More specifically, participants will discuss how to: 1) define, identify and connect with the community for collaborative inquiry; 2) build trust and rapport with justice-involved populations and community-based organizations; 3) co-design projects, collect and analyze data, and disseminate findings in partnership; 4) reflect on the research process and evaluate lessons learned from collaboration; and, 5) sustain contact with community partners beyond research projects.
