This study explores the rise in criminal behavior using digital and technological devices among youths by examining the predictors and providing a comparative analysis of cybercrime incidents in the United States and Sub-Saharan Africa. Over the years, several criminal networks have emerged across different parts of the world by utilizing internet technology to recruit members and fund different illicit trades. In Sub-Saharan Africa, several youths engage in online illicit activities as a coping mechanism for widespread socioeconomic disparities and poverty. Also, several Americans have been victims of internet fraud and identity theft. This study uses data from different sources to examine the trends of cybercrime from 2010 to 2023. Policy implications of the findings include: providing economic and empowerment opportunities for youths; creating a conducive environment for the development of small and medium-scale enterprises; and providing strong cybersecurity measures.
