Session Submission Type: Roundtable Session
Many criminology and criminal justice programs include internship opportunities in their curriculum that allow students to apply abstract concepts from the classroom in concrete ways to the field. These internships provide opportunities for students to explore careers in areas such as victim support services, juvenile justice, law enforcement, community corrections, and legal fields. In this roundtable, we will discuss how internships operate in our respective criminology and criminal justice programs. In particular, we will share the learning objectives for internships, how internships are connected to our curriculum, and the successes and challenges our programs face with internships. Through this roundtable conversation we hope to identify best practices for how to support student learning in internships, in addition to practical tips for facilitating internships.
