Abstract/Description

The aim of discussion is to expand the body of evidence documenting the profound racial impacts of the global expansion of the carceral state. This session will address the ways in which political rhetoric of “public safety”, “crime prevention” and “crime control” have normalized the blanket surveillance, policing and confinement of specific groups, especially those within particular geospatial locations.
