Using monthly panel data from New York City, the study aims to explore how police activities have evolved four years after Covid-19 and George Floyd’s death, and how these changes have impacted gun violence. Following these catastrophic events, there was a significant increase in pedestrian stops, accompanied by a reduction in gun violence. The study conducts an interrupted time series analysis to investigate whether the increase in pedestrian stops may have played a role in the reduction of gun violence. Finally, the study concludes with a discussion of the findings, along with implications for research and policy.
