The Nigeria police force is the primary law enforcement institution, charge to enforce law and order in the society for the protection of human right. However, the pessimism and negativism surrounding the police force has continued to be on an increase. Most especially on violating the fundamental human right of citizens including brutality. The paper investigate the extent to which the Nigeria police has become an instrument to human right violations, examining key area such extrajudicial killing, arbitrary arrest, torture and suppression of freedom. Were systemic factors such as corruption, poor training, inadequate accountability mechanism and political interference as contribution to these violations. It also evaluate the impact of police misconduct on societal trust, governance and public safety. The paper adopted descriptive method to analyze datas such as New paper publications, internet, videos, and textbook. Conflict theory (Karl Marx ) and human right based approach were employed as a theoretical framework. The paper conclude by recommending a holistic approach to police reform emphasizing accountability, capacity building and community engagement to transform the Nigeria police into a truly right respecting institution.
