Honor-Based Abuse and Its Perception Among the University Population

Fri, Nov 14, 8:00 to 9:20am, Independence Salon H - M4

Abstract

This research aims to examine the level of awareness and knowledge the university population possesses on honour-based violence or abuse in Spain, their attitudes towards this form of violence, and their views on the legal response it requires. An online survey was designed and completed by 3,005 university students across various undergraduate, master's, and doctoral programmes at 8 universities in Catalonia, the geographical area in Spain with the highest immigrant population and where most cases of honour-based violence and forced marriage have been detected to date. This contribution presents the results obtained from the data analysis, including a description of the structure of the instrument used to collect data and the socio-demographic characteristics of the sample.
