Violence against women is a phenomenon that continues to plague women worldwide despite numerous policies, actions, and activities implemented to alleviate the problem. The acts of violence directed against women have gained recognition as a complex and global problem that continues to challenge policymakers, justice systems, service providers, activists, families, and individuals who seek to prevent and deal with it. Using a feminist criminological framework, this study examines sexual assault justification among males in typical patriarchal African societies. We will specifically examine these justifications in the context of sexual assault in dating relationship and explore factors influencing the justifications.
