Personalized learning helps to meet students’ diverse needs and can improve overall learning. Research indicates that students can learn more effectively when the instruction is customized to their unique learning needs. Adaptive Learning is a form of personalized learning that presents information/content individualized to each student. The traditional one-size-fits-all approach does not recognize that students all learn in different ways and formats. Structuring learning in an adaptive format provides that recognition and can improve student learning. An adaptive learning system can modify instruction and learning activities to be customized to the needs of each student during a course. This study presents preliminary results comparing an Adaptive Learning section of Introduction to Criminal Justice to a Hybrid section of the same course.
