Research on perceptions of police has largely focused on the general population and/or college student samples. This mixed-method study expands that knowledge by looking at why emerging adults (ages 18-24) perceive the police based on a national study. The primary aim of this study is to understand how individual intersectional identity and/or college student status influences police perception. The study utilized a national sample of emerging adults recruited through social media. Results examine perceptions of police and the reasons why these perceptions may be positive/negative based on individual demographics and college student status. Policy and research recommendations will be discussed.
