Justice-involved youth face many challenges, including increased risks of engaging in risky sexual behaviors. Using data from the Northwestern Juvenile Project, this study examines the connection between justice involvement and risky sexual behaviors while considering factors like gang involvement, neighborhood conditions, family structure, drug use, and health status. Preliminary findings suggest that certain conditions increase the likelihood that justice-involved youth engage in risky sexual behaviors and experience associated negative consequences. Additionally, many lack essential knowledge about HIV/AIDS, further increasing their vulnerability. Understanding these risks can help shape better policies and interventions to protect at-risk youth.
